Borrusia Dortmund defender Lukasz Piszczek has revealed that he was always convinced that he would one day join Real Madrid only for the move to never come into fruition.

The Polish international insisted that Borrusia Dortmund scuppered his ambition by refusing to let him quit the club.

At age 35, Lukasz remains a fulcrum in the Dortmund team this campaign.

“Every year, I was being told that I was going to Real Madrid, but then nothing happened,” Piszczek old Kicker.

“There were no offers, my agent didn’t tell me about direct contact, they were just rumours.

“Perhaps Borussia Dortmund wanted to prevent me from leaving, so they didn’t even listen to [offers from] other clubs.”

The experienced defender is named the captain of the Lucien Favre’s team and has featured in 26 out of a possible 31 Bundesliga matches this term.

His contract was set to expire in June, but he recently renewed for another season due to the effect of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
