The embattled Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has officially announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.

Recall that Mr Obaseki said he would conclude on a decision on his membership of the APC after meeting with the Nigerian leader, and disclose such to his teeming supporters while urging them to remain calm.

Mr Obaseki was last week disqualified by the APC Screening Committee from partaking in the party’s gubernatorial primary slated for June 22 on the allegation of “defective qualifications”.

The governor, who has been enmeshed in a protracted cold war with the APC National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomole, blamed his ordeal on him.

There are strong indications that the governor would defect to the People’s Democratic Party, having been in talks with its arrowheads in the couple of days in order to achieve his second term bid.
