Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has finally put to rest all speculations as to his next political move after dumping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by formally joining the ruling opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

A statement posted on the official Twitter handle of the PDP confirmed this development today, 19, June, 2020.

It reads: “Breaking News! The governor of Edo State, H.E. @GovernorObaseki has defected to our great Party, the @OfficialPDPNig. The declaration was made this afternoon at the state Secretariat of our party in Benin city, Edo State. Power to the people. #EdoIsPDP.

The Edo State governor was disqualified from partaking in the primary election of his party by a Screening Committee on the allegation of “defective qualifications”. This was later followed by his resignation after consulting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Obaseki, who believed that his former political godfather and suspended National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomole was behind his travails, led his supporters amid fanfare to the PDP’s Secretariat in Benin-city to declare his defection.
