The Federal Government commissioned and handed over the erosion and flood control works project at Patigi Town {PHASE I), Patigi L.G.A., Kwara State, executed by the Federal Government through the Ecological Fund Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, On Friday 22, 2021.

President Muhammad Buhari was ably represented by the Honorable Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Ruqayyah Saraki.

The minister appreciated the confidence and trust reposed in her by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in a speech delivered at the official commissioning of the project.

“It is indeed an honour to have been nominated by the President Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR to represent him in the commissioning and handover of the Erosion and Flood Control Works project at Patigi Town (Phase I), Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State,” she said.

She urged the members of the community to play their part in ensuring the longevity and sustainability of the projects, stressing that their maximum cooperation on the projects will benefit the whole of the community. This commissioning and handing over is significant as it will enable the Community to take ownership of the project to ensure
its proper maintenance and sustainability.

“I, therefore call on everyone in this community to see the project as theirs (indeed it is) and guard it jealously. The Community should also prevent the misuse of the project by dumping debris and refuse in the drainage channels. The consequence of filling the drainage with refuse will naturally lead to blockage and another flooding and erosion.

Every member of the Community must play its part in ensuring the benefits of this project are not lost. Dumping of debris and refuse in the drainage channels will lead to blockage and flooding and erosion. It is a common benefit for all community members; therefore, it requires a common effort by all of you.”

She thanked the King of the community, the community heads, and the members of the community as she pleads for their support throughout the stay of the government.
