The Arewa of Offa Land, Queen Latifah Biola Olanrewaju has concluded arrangements to organise a 3-day empowerment programme amid increasing trends of poverty and unemployment bedeviling the country.

The empowerment programme targets female youths and is the first of its kind initiated by the Office of the Arewa of Offa (Miss Offa) in collaboration with Arch. Lola Ashiru, Senator representing Kwara South and Offa Descendants Union (ODU).

Expected to commence from today, Monday, March 1st to Wednesday, March 3rd, the empowerment programme will equip female youths with different skills in order to be self-reliant and self-dependent.

Areas to be covered in the skills acquisition training include: bead making, make up, soap making among others, just as trainees would be provided with start up materials on the grand finale day.

“The Nigerian economy is very harsh in recent times. Many persons are living below poverty line and are at a very disadvantaged situation. I wish to contribute my own quota to economic development by empowering female youths in order to make them self-reliant and raise their standard of living,” the Miss Offa said in a statement.

She added: “It is on this note that I wish to use my office as the Arewa of Offa Land to organise a 3-day empowerment programme for female youths. The programme will equip them with the acquisition of various skills and train them on capacity building.

“I will also be providing start up materials for the trainees to put to practice what they have learnt. This, I believe, will reduce the rising spate of prostitution and other social problems common among the unempowered female youths. When we train a woman, we are training a nation.”

Free registration forms are available at ODU Headquarters, Offa as training will be flagged off today, March 1 at 10am by Chief (Alh.) Lanre T. Shittu, Otun Akoni of Offa Land.

Queen Latifah appreciated the kind support of personalities that have extended hands of fellowship to her in the cause, praying God to reward them abundantly.

The Miss Offa also sought the support of other well meaning individuals to make the empowerment programme a success, noting that the development of Offa is a collective task.
