President Buhari appoints Kwara-born Trade Unionist, Issa Aremu Director, NILS

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Kwara-born notable Trade Unionist, Comrade Issa Aremu as the Director of the National Institute for Labour Studies (NILS).

The appointment was conveyed to the public in a statement by presidential media aide, Garba Shehu today.

According to the statement, Comrade Aremu has been a notable Trade Unionist who has risen through the ranks in the Trade Union hierarchy in Nigeria.

Until his appointment, Aremu is General Secretary, National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NVTGTWN) and Vice President, IndustriALL Global Union.

He was also gubernatorial candidate for Labour Party in Kwara State during the 2019 general election.

In a related development, the President approved the appointment of Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo as the substantive Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

Fikpo held the position in acting capacity before his recent appointment.

The appointments which are for a period of four years take effect from May 18, 2021, the statement revealed.
