Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru is dead, The Ravens NG reports.

Sources said General Attahiru was killed alongside other military top guns in a plane crash in Kaduna during a trip for an official assignment.

Although the Nigerian Air Force issued a terse statement on micro-blogging platform, Twitter confirming that there was indeed a crash involving its aircraft, it did not immediately say the personalities onboard nor affirm the news of the Army chief’s death.

“An air crash involving a Nigerian Air Force aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon,” it said.

Mr Attahiru was appointed Chief of Army Staff January 26, succeeding Tukur Buratai. He was until his death 54.
