Some concerned stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara Central are suing for calm and unity amid agitations for Kwara North 2023 gubernatorial agenda.

The Ravens NG had earlier on reported that the agitation is causing division and heated exchanges among party members.

In a letter addressed to the party leadership however, some Kwara Central stakeholders comprising Hon. Abubakar Bolakale Okoh, Ilorin West Local Government Youth Leader; Hon. Saadu Abdulwasiu, Asa Local Government Youth Leader; Comr. Rasaq Aremu, Ilorin South Local Government Youth Leader; Comr. Sheu Saheed Olesin, Ilorin East Local Government Youth Leader posited that the question of which zone produces the governorship candidate come 2023 should be settled at the party level, not within subgroups.

“The ways and manners which these people are inciting the Kwara North against the Central part of the State is promoting division and pitching the two senatorial districts (Kwara North and Central) that have been traditionally and politically brotherhood (sic) of each other. The motive for such interference by these set of people is becoming suspicious,” the letter read partly.

“Sir, we believe that as both the Kwara North Central and South have shared and been enjoying strong history of cordial relationship based on mutual respect, the issue of which zone to produce the governorship candidate comes 2023 is one that can be discuss and settle at the party level in conjunction with the leaders of the party and not just within the smaller set of people. It is not in the place of some individuals to take it upon themselves and started acting in ways that will widen the gap within a party that is pursuing Reconciliation and Mobilization.”

The concerned stakeholders said it is myopic to promote zoning at a time the Kwara PDP needs to “put her best legs forward in the next election”.

“When it is time to field a candidate in 2023, we would together recommend to put forward the most competent individual with track record of antecedents and commitments who can convince the people of our intention to deliver the dividends of democracy. We say the present government is clueless, so we cannot start talking of adopting a strategy that would limit our options.

“Sir, the majority of Kwara youths are strongly appealing to you to use your good office to prevail on this issue, in line with the ongoing Reconciliation within the PDP members in the State, we do not need any group of people to create crisis by getting involved in a matter that does not have any direct bearing on them.

“Sir, we are by this letter appealing to you to engage with the PDP leadership in Kwara State to prevail on these people to desist from their provocative activities against Party members in the State. As we believe divided house will take us to no where. Unity can only win us elections, divided has nothing than failure.”
