A magistrate court in Offa has ordered Offa Local Government to service the debt incurred under the chairmanship of Hon. Saheed Popoola to a contractor, slamming an additional 5 percent pay on the council as compensation.

Popoola who is now member representing Ojomu Balogun Constituency held sway as chairman of Offa LGA circa 2011 to 2013.

He was said to have awarded a contract worth N12 million to Engr. Oridadegun Agboworin, failing however to complete payment upon completion of the project.

The former chairman at the time, it was gathered, only paid the sum of N7.2 million to the contractor, with the balance not serviced since then by the council despite project completion.

The contractor therefore approached the court in February 2019 to seek redress and get his pay through his legal representative, Ibrahim Sharafadeen.

In his ruling, Magistrate Gambari ordered the council to pay the balance of the contractor with an additional 5 percent as compensation.
