2022 budget: Kwara govt commences citizens’ engagement

Kwara State government has commenced a citizens’ engagement as part of the processes geared towards drawing up the 2022 budget.

The engagement which is becoming a custom during every budget year in the state was flagged off on Tuesday in Afon of Ass local government area.

The government posited that the views of its people form the bedrock of its fiscal proposals and budget preparation.

The Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi represented Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the event which was attended by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Folorunsho; Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Ambali Olatunji Ibrahim; and other government officials.

In his speech, Mr Alabi said the democratisation of the budget preparation process is in line with the global best practices of transparency and impactful budget performance as citizens contribute to budgeting.

“Indeed, we are making sure that the budget is implemented efficiently for positive impacts on the lives of the people,” he added.

The Deputy Governor, therefore, appealed to the people to state their preferences which government will implement within the limits of available resources.

In his welcome remarks, Alhaji Folorunsho said the gathering is to harvest inputs from citizens into the 2022 state budget preparation.
