Offa is undoubtedly one of the reputable towns in Yoruba land. Our standing out among our equals is due mainly to the quality of our education, exposure, enterprising, developmental and progressive ideals.
Some of the ideals we grew up to observe from our predecessors in Offa is that they were never desperate or selfish. In Offa, we are taught to allow collective interest prevail over personal and selfish interests. We are not trained to have a ‘take it all’ mentality. Rather, we are taught to love for others what we love for ourselves.
I therefore venture to say that the outcome of the recent congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Offa local government truly resonates with the Offa ideal of giving everyone a sense of inclusion and belonging as all political stakeholders had a fair share of inclusion.
What played out in both the ward and local government congresses was a case of give and take. In life, you take some and learn to give some. Take it all is selfishness, desperation and it goes against everything Offa represents.
Political players must therefore be cautioned against the dangerous voyage of desperation. It is thanks to the true and sensitive leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq that while some political stakeholders had their way in the ward congress; others had their way in the local government congress in Offa. This is political inclusion that’s an imperative for party to grow and thrive. A situation where some see themselves as cabals and want to take it all, getting rid of others does not mean well for democratic ethos and the true Offa ideal.
Every progressive must be selfless, true, loyal and committed to the party and its leadership. The real definition of loyalty to a cause is allowing its general interest prevail. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq must be commended for ensuring an inclusive process for all by finding a middle ground for all stakeholders. With this development, no political stakeholder who means well for the party, democracy and Offa in general will be aggrieved because it’s a win-win situation. Win this, lose that. Give this, take that. That’s the only way a heterogeneous party like the APC can thrive.
All the executives should now come together to build a united and formidable party by contributing their various ideas and quotas. It is hoped that their diversed backgrounds will shape the party structure meaningfully in Offa local government so that more hearts can be won into the party.
APC… AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is our Leader.
