The Kwara Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (KOPAN) on Thursday paid a familiarization visit to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ilorin, the state capital, stating Its readiness to partner the security outfit in enhancing security and stamping out criminality.

In the visit, a top Director with the Service charged members of KOPAN to build their careers on the path of honesty and integrity, noting that journalists are critical stakeholders in curbing crimes and criminalities in the country.

Sharing security tips with the association, the DSS Chief advised Nigerians to shun moving around at night as most criminal acts are committed at night.

He also charged the people to always notify a trusted one before embarking on any trip. This, according to him, will provide a clue in the case of kidnap or other evil occurrences.

He said it is pertinent to associate with neighbours in the community saying, “the best form of security is provided by a friendly environment.”

The Director also preached modesty because bragging or boasting about one’s achievements could easily attract monitoring of the evil ones.

Speaking further, he urged everyone to prioritize having a trained dog at home, stressing that a well trained dog is endowed with the quality of perceiving criminal elements at least 2 kilometers away, then bark to alert the owner of the looming evil.

He said the enemies of the country are many but glad, there are laws against every unlawful assembly, assuring that all evil perpetrators will definitely face the wrath of the law.

For his part, KOPAN Chairman, Ogbeni Hammed Adedayo Said, reiterated the readiness of the association to partner with the security outfit for optimum performance in fighting crime and promoting the state.
