UNIMAID Alumni holds reunion in Ilorin, unveils website

The Ciroma of Ilorin, Alhaji Barrister Abubakar Bature Sulu-Gambari has charged members of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Alumni Association, Kwara State Chapter to be supportive of the association’s efforts towards promoting unity and development among the institution’s alumni.

Barrister Sulu-Gambari who gave this charge on Saturday at the Association’s reunion and dinner night which was held at the Kwara Hotels Ilorin, said the goals of the alumni association are to prioritise the welfares of its members as well as support the growth of their alma mata.

Represented by the Chairman, Ilorin Emirate, Alangua/Magaji Forum, Alhaji Abdulraheem Zuluqorinain, the Ciroma of Ilorin who was the chairman of the occasion said: “the UNIMAID Alumni Association in Kwara State should prioritise the welfares of the institution’s alumni who are either indigene or resident of the state. The association should ensure that members and other relevant stakeholders are constantly engaged on how to reposition the association in order to support some of the objectives of the institution.

“UNIMAID as one of the foremost institutions in Nigeria has developed and continued to develop indigents of Kwara State and beyond thus making them to become self-reliant and productive members of the society. The association should, therefore, poised to galvanise support and cooperation from members through which the objectives of the association would be met and sustained.”

Delivering a lecture titled “Collective Responsibility as a Catalyst for National Development”, the Director, Institute of Education, Kwara State University Malete, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Laro tasked members of the association to contribute their quota towards national development, adding that, the development process of Nigeria requires concerted efforts from individuals in all walks of life. Professor Laro charged the UNIMAID alumni to see the association as a platform through which they could give back to their community and country at large.

Also speaking, the chairman, UNIMAID Alumni Association, Kwara State Chapter, Mallam Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe to highlighted some of the achievements of the current executive to include the development of a website (www.unimaidalumnikwara.org) as well as a database of Kwara indigents and residents who are alumni of the UNIMAID.

The interactive platform, according to Olohungbebe, would be used to provide updates on activities of the association as well profiles of its members who are residents of Kwara State.

Highlights of the event include presentations of certificates of recognition to dignitaries and the unveiling of the alumni association website.

Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion with their presence were the Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Ibrahim Suleiman the Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Nusirat Elelu, the Chairman, Transition Implementation Committee, Isin Local Government of Kwara State, Honourable (Engineer) Tunde Fadipe, Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Legal Matters, Barrister Muritala Sambo, among others.
