A group of concerned members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Irepodun Local Government of Kwara State has alleged a party elder, Comrade Bisi Fakayode of sabotaging the chances of the opposition party in the forthcoming 2023 elections.

Fakayode was accused of trying to override the due process in selecting candidates from Irepodun in cahoots with some other party elders.

Calling the attention of the leader of the party in Kwara State, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki and other party stakeholders to what they described as shoddy dealings, the concerned party members who craved anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter said that the actions of Mr Fakayode and his co-travellers are enough to sink the ship of the leading opposition party.

“Comrade Bisi Fakayode has been a double-edged man who believes he is more intelligent than every political game player. He is seriously on the voyage of misleading the system by ensuring that our great party, PDP, puts all its eggs in a basket, neglecting the fact that we are in opposition,” one of them told The Ravens NG late Sunday.

“He is putting sentiment above winning elections forgetting that 2023 general elections will be a litmus test for the office he is occupying.

“It is a known fact that Irepodun has two axis, Irewolede and Omu Aran axis. It will be important to note that the forthcoming elections have its own exigency already, and it will be suicidal of our party, the PDP, to feed all its candidates from a single axis while marginalising the other axis.

“We are calling on the leadership of PDP under the umbrella of Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki to ensure that reclaiming back the party’s lost glory by winning the forthcoming elections is placed above individuals sentiment.

“Comrade Fakayode should be warned that this is Peoples Democratic Party, not a Labour Union, where everything goes without giving a chance to sincere dialogue through plain democratic processes.

“Comrade Fakayode is using his office to subdue the aspirations of young and energetic aspiring youths at all costs for reasons best known to him and his crew. We appreciate Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki for being magnanimous in his dealings with sensitive issues going in the party and for his fair play in ensuring that power return to the people. We are hereby using this medium to charge all party stakeholders and elders to emulate our leader and know that in togetherness, we can become victorious.”

All efforts to reach Mr Fakayode to present his side of the story did not succeed as at the time of filing this report.
