Manchester United win against Charlton Athletic ensured Erik Ten Hag becomes the fastest United manager to reach 20 wins in 27 games. The record was held hitherto by Sir Alex Ferguson. But the win on Tuesday night ensured the record was only a matter of time before it is broken.
The win was United’s eight consecutive wins in all competition, with the Red Devils last defeat came against Aston Villa on November 6. Ever since the defeat at the Villa Park, Man United have beaten Fulham, Burnley, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Everton.
Ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford didn’t get to much brighter start as he lost both of his first two league games against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Old Trafford and Brentford at the G-tech Stadium. Losing the latter by a miserable 4 goals to nil.
But since the difficult start, United have been progressive, losing just two games and drawing two.
The 52-year-old has been credited of giving young players the chance to prove themselves in the united team. With Alejandro Garnacho a prime example. He also gave a chance to both Facundo Pellistri and Kobbie Mainoo in the game against Charlton Athletic and was delighted with the performance of the former, who he believes have a future at Man United.
“I think Pellistri came in, he was lively, and had a good assist with Rashford’s finishing.
“I see a future in him. You see he’s progressing. Against Everton [behind closed doors in training], I was happy with his performance, and I was happy with him in the World Cup. Well done, better, keep going.” Ten Hag said.
