Niger: Deputy speaker resigns position

Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly and member representing Bida I, Bako Alfa, has resigned his position as deputy speaker.

A notification letter conveying his resignation was read by the Speaker, Abdullahi Wuse, during Thursday’s plenary.

In the letter, Alfa appreciated the leadership of the house for the opportunity given to him to serve as the deputy speaker of the house.

The Clerk of the House, Abdullahi Kagara, thereafter called for the nomination of a new deputy speaker.

Suleiman Gambo, lawmaker representing Paikoro nominated Jibrin Ndagi Baba, representing Lavun constituency, for the position and was seconded by Ibrahim Salihu, member representing Kontagora II.

Baba enjoyed a unanimous vote, as there was no other nomination.
