Fire engulfs building in Ilorin, destructs valuables

A raging inferno that occurred in the wee hours of today has razed down a building in Tanke area of Ilorin, leaving properties and valuables destroyed.

A statement by Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Department, Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service confirms this unfortunate development, noting that the intervention of the service curtailed further spread.

The statement read in part, “There is (sic) another fire incident in Ilorin today. At (sic) No. 35B, Akorede Street, Tanke Area, Ilorin.

“In a building of about three bedrooms flat were on fire, where the whole building was badly affected by the inferno. And many others valuable properties within the building also got burnt as well (sic).

“The State Fire Service arrived the incident promptly at exactly 03:44hrs which was just six minutes after the “call out time” at 03:38hrs.

“Unfortunately getting to the incident, the ranging (sic) fire had already engulfed the whole building as a result of late calling by the surrounding sympathizers.

“But, thankfully we eliminated the fire on time and prevented it from further spreading to the buildings in the vicinity area.

Adekunle stated that based on information gathered, the incident was caused “as a result of careless attitude that was put up by one the dwellers of the burnt building, by leaving one electrical appliance “on” and unattended to thereby caused the inferno.”

He added: “Therefore, the Director of State Fire Service urged the general public (especially the public office users) to imbibe the habit of always be switching off all their electrical appliances.”
