The National Moonsighting Committee of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has stated that there was no positive sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Muharram yesterday.
The Committee affirms that today, August 20, 2020 is equivalent to Dhul-Hijjah 30, 1441 AH of the Hijrah calendar.
Tomorrow, August 21 is therefore Muharram 1, 1442 AH which earmarks the beginning of a new Islamic year referred to as Hijrah.
According to the Committee in a tweet, the locations from which observers sent negative reports include: Isolo, Lagos State, Bauchi, Bauchi State, Obanikoro, Lagos State, Ilorin, Kwara State amongst others.
