UNILAG Crises: FG recuses Babalakin, Ogundipe from official duties, sacks controversial Ag. VC

The dust may have temporarily settled regarding the crisis rocking the management of the University of Lagos as the Federal Government intervenes, recusing the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University of Lagos, Wale Babalakin and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe from official duties.

This recusal is to endure till the outcome of the Special Visitation Panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the same development, the President also sacked the controversial Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Theophilus Omololu Soyombo of the the Faculty of Social Sciences, charging the Senate to appoint another Acting Vice-Chancellor.

The Federal Ministry of Education spokesman, Ben Goong, made this known in a press statement on Friday.

The statement read, “FG directs Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Governing Council of the University of Lagos, Dr. B.O. Babalakin and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin T.O. Ogundipe to recuse themselves from official duties, pending the outcome of the Special Visitation Panel set up by the President. Details shortly.”
