Former Sokoto governor, Wamakko loses daughter to birth complications

Former Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamakko has lost his daughter, Sadiya to complications arising from childbirth.

The 23-year-old lady died at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, on Thursday.

Sadiya has been buried on the same day according to Islamic rites.

The funeral prayer, held at Wamakko’s residence, was led by Liman Akwara, Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Juma’at Mosque, Sokoto.

The funeral prayer was also attended by Chiso Dattijo, a former deputy governor and national commissioner of the National Population Commission; Ahmed Sokoto, a former deputy governor and executive secretary, Police Trust Fund; Hassan Danbaba, magajin garin Sokoto; and Rilwanu Bello, magajin rafin Sokoto.

Wamakko is currently the lawmaker representing Sokoto North at the National Assembly.

He is also the chairman of the senate committee on defence and deputy chairman, senate committee on anti-corruption.

He served as the governor of Sokoto between 2007 and 2015.
