KOPAN congratulates new NUJ chair, excos

The Kwara Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (KOPAN), on Saturday, congratulated the State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) on its peaceful election, describing the outcome “as a true show of democracy and an example for the larger society to emulate.”

In a release signed by the coordinator of the association, Ogbeni Adedayo Said, who is also the publisher of Kwara Reporters, the association further urged the new chairman to be magnanimous in victory and carry along every practising Journalist.

“The Kwara Online Publishers Association of Nigeria, (KOPAN) hereby congratulates the new chairman, Mr. Ahmed Abdullateef of the Herald Newspapers, on his victory. We also congratulate other members of the newly elected executive.

“No doubt, the process leading up to the election which by all standards was devoid of the campaign of calumny and hate shows that the Kwara NUJ Council has set the pace for a free and fair election process not only in the union but in the country at at large.

“It is therefore incumbent on everyone, especially all the contestants and their supporters, to jettison their misgivings and work together as equal stakeholders in the business of evolving a stronger and more united Council in the state,” the release stated.

The association further reassured the new Chairman and his executive of its full support in the business of enlightening and informing the society and ensuring that a positive image of Kwara state is projected to the world.

The association stressed that it would always be a partner in strengthening media professionalism, discourage sensationalism and embrace development or solution-driven journalism.
