An aspirant in the Kwara Central senatorial race, Amb. Yahaya Seriki has emphatically declared that he would not step down his ambition for the incumbent Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe.

Seriki stated this against the backdrop of rumours making the rounds on social media, insinuating that he has backed down for Oloriegbe after a purported alliance talks of the duo in Abuja shortly after their successful screening.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Afolayan Ibrahim, Seriki said he “procured the senatorial forms and had never agreed to step down for Oloriegbe, having been screened and cleared for the Kwara Central senatorial seat at the APC national headquarters in Abuja.

Seriki maintained that he did not also obtain the APC House of Representatives form or attend the screening exercise as being circulated in a section of the media.

He urged the people of Kwara Central to disregard the “false news”, reiterating that he has no plans to align with Oloriegbe.

The Kwara Central senatorial contest is emerging as the most contested and the most talked about in the build up the 2023 general elections.

This may be informed by the calibre of contestants for the position, which include the incumbent, Dr. Oloriegbe, Seriki, a young multi-million naira miner, and a former national chairmanship aspirant of the APC, Saliu Mustapha.
