Offa poly gets new registrar

Mr. Gabriel Soko has been approved as the fifth substantive Registrar of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara state by the institution’s Governing Council.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations and Publicity of the institution, Olayinka Iroye, and made available to the newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday.

It was stated that Soko, until his appointment, was the Deputy Registrar in charge of Council Affairs. He’s an indigene of Igosun in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, according to the statement, is an erudite administrator and a technocrat.

“He joined the service of the polytechnic in 1995 as Administrative Officer II and rose through the ranks to become a Deputy Registrar on 1st July, 2010. He has worked in virtually every department of the institution.

“Having completed his elementary education, he proceeded to Offa Grammar School, Offa, Kwara State for his secondary education between 1979 and 1984 and later to the Kwara State College of Technology, now Kwara State Polytechnic, for his Cambridge A’level from 1986-1989. He attended the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, where he bagged his B.Sc. (Hons) Sociology in 1991 and University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, for his Master’s in Industrial and Labour Relations (MILR) in 2005. He also obtained a Diploma in Information Technology (Desktop Publishing) in 2010.

“He is a member of many professional bodies among which are; Member, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPN); Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria.

“Mr. Soko has served the polytechnic diligently in various administrative capacities; he was Deputy Registrar (Council Affairs). Deputy Registrar (Senior Staff Establishment). Deputy Registrar (Academic Affairs Unit); Deputy Registrar (Institute of Continuing Education); NODAL Officer/Head of SERVICOM Unit; School Administrative Officer, School of Engineering which he combined with Council Affairs Office between December 2004 – March 2009; School Officer, School of Communication and Information Technology, among many others.

“He has attended various academic seminars, conferences and workshops and has many conference/seminar papers to his credit.

“He is happily married and blessed with children.

“The Governing Council, Management, staff and students wish him a successful tenure of office”, the statement said.
