Chelsea defender, Wesley Fofana could be set for another spell on the sideline after he sustained a fresh injury.

The Frenchman has endured a rough start to life at Chelsea after signing for £75m from Leicester City during the summer transfer window. He made six appearances for the Blues before he sustained a knee injury in the UEFA Champions League against AC Milan in October. The knee problem has kept him on the sideline since then which has made him missed out on being selected by Didier Deschamps in France’s squad for the 2022 the world cup in Qatar.

The 21-year-old recently returned to full training at the Cobhams Training Centre, but did miss the friendly match against Aston Villa. He returned to action in a behind closed doors friendly against Brentford on Tuesday where Chelsea won 5-1.

But it appears he has now suffered a setback according to Chelsea news expert, Simon Philips, who said he (Fofana), was forced off during the game, with further reports saying it was again a knee issue. While the severity is not yet known, it is claimed that he ‘looked upset’ as he departed the pitch.

But the player himself played down the injury scare as he wrote on his official Instagram account: “Nothing bad, champion, not even 1 month, we’re back to break everything.”

The Blues will be back to footballing action on 27, December when they will be playing host to AFC Bournemouth.
