Liverpool FC have reached a transfer agreement with PSV Eindhoven for talismanic forward, Cody Gakpo for a reported fee of £37million including add ons.

This is coming just hours after the Reds defeated Aston Villa by three goals to one at the Villa Park.

The 23-year-old was instrumental for the Netherlands in Qatar where he scored 3 goals before the ‘Oranje’ were eliminated by the tournament winners, Argentina in the quarterfinals. The forward already has 30 goal involvements (13 goals and 17 assists) in 24 matches for his club side, PSV Eindhoven this season.

According to PSV Eindhoven in an official statement, “PSV and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement on the upcoming transfer of Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old attacker will immediately leave for England where he will undergo the necessary formalities to complete the transfer. Both clubs are not making announcements about the transfer fee. ‘But this is a record transfer fee for PSV’, said director Marcel Brands.

“The PSV management completed the transfer on Boxing Day and gave Gakpo permission to travel to England”.

Liverpool FC are expected to go for an attacker in the winter transfer window after the team was hit with injuries in attack, with Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota out until March. They therefore needed reinforcement in order to boost their firepower and subsequently end the season on a high.

Recall that Manchester United were reported to be front runners for the signature of the Dutch winger as Erik ten Hag is very much interested to seal an agreement. But it is now confirmed Gakpo will be heading to the red half of Merseyside.
