Hon. Muktar Shagaya, NEMA share palliatives to flood victims in Ilorin West/Asa local governments

Member representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal House Assembly, Honourable Muktar Tolani Shagaya, on Tuesday distributed over 1000 units of food items to victims of flood in Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, Kwara State.

Rep. Shagaya who performed the distribution exercise at his constituency office in Ilorin, said the gesture was to cushion the hardship caused by the devastating flood in the constituency adding that said that the relief materials would help alleviate the burden faced by the people. And the relief materials approved for distribution are in categories, including social relief care packs, nutritional packs, livelihood items, and building materials.

Speaking to the newsmen on behalf of the House of Representatives member, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Basheer Luqman, explained that some of the items included, blankets, cartons of noodles, bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of gari, bags of cements and roofing materials among others. According to him, no amount of relief provided by the government can replace the losses as a result of the flood.

He said that the materials were meticulously distributed in all the identified parts of the constituency, without any form of diversion or any irregularities.

Also, the General Secretary of Kwara State All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Mustapha Ishowo expressed profound appreciation to Hon. Shagaya for his kind gesture to identify with the plight of the people. He recalled that homes, farmlands, and businesses in the constituency were lost to the flood.

Meanwhile, the officials of Kwara State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA), in their remarks, said the agency in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), had conducted the needs assessment in the affected communities and local government areas, saying that the agency worked with constituency office to fashion out modalities for effective distribution. Assured that the distribution exercise was monitored to ensure that the items got to those for whom they were meant. “We sincerely wish to assure you and all the affected persons in the aforementioned locality, that the relief materials will get them,” SEMA said.

While interviewing, Mrs. Amudalat Abdulwasiu said, “the beneficiaries appreciated the kind gesture by the Federal lawmaker, Honourable Muktar Shagaya, aimed at alleviating the plight of the people as no fewer than 1,200 persons in the two local government areas were beneficiaries of the distribution of relief materials for the victims of flood disaster in Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency.
