Kwara State government has made a slight amendment to the name of one of its ministries today in a cabinet meeting.

The announcement was contained in a release issued by Commissioner for Communications, Harriet Afolabi-Oshatimehin in Ilorin, the state capital.

She said the cabinet approved the addition of ‘Women Affairs’ to the Ministry of Social Development, thereby renaming it as Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

The release partly reads, “The cabinet meanwhile has also approved the reversal of the Ministry of Social Development to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development following a memo by the Head of Service Modupe Oluwole who said excluding ‘women affairs’ from the nomenclature may deprive the state of certain benefits especially from gender-based international development partners.”

The ministry is currently manned by Mrs Aremu Deborah.
