Another Super Eagles star leaves camp

Super Eagles assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong, has joined the the list of injury plagued Nigeria national team squad.

About 48hrs to the anticipated tie between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Desert Foxes of Algeria, it has been confirmed that William has caught up an injury and has since returned to his club in England to receive further treatment.

“William Troost-Ekong has left camp as a result of an injury cropped during the test game yesterday (Friday). He is back to base for further checks. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Ekong💪🏽💪🏽” it was revealed on the Super Eagles Twitter handle disclosed.

Ekong had led Nigeria to a 2-2 draw against the Algeria “B” team on Friday, in preparation of African Nations Championship (CHAN).

With Ekong leading the team, the Super Eagles on Friday played a 2-2 draw with Algeria ‘B’ team preparing for the African Nations Championships (CHAN).

Super Eagles had gone on a two goal lead courtesy of a brilliant strike from outside the box 18 by Alex Iwobi and a proper number 9 finish from Cyriel Dessers in the first half while a first-half goalkeeping error from Maduka Okoye and a penalty kick in the second half for Algeria ensured the game ended in a stalemate.

The encounter which was originally scheduled to be played between Nigerian and Algerian home-based teams.

Ekong is the second player to withdraw from the Super Eagles camp since the match against Algerian after Wilfried Ndidi had left due to an injury.

Captain Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, Sadiq Umar, Henry Onyekuru and Samuel Chukwueze, are notable superstars who are currently on the list of injury players from the super Eagles.

It is believed that Nigerian Head coach, Jose Peseiro is blessed with lot of options in the heart of defense even with the absence of one of his trusted man, Troost-Ekong against Algeria I’m the Miloud Hadefi Stadium, Oran, on Tuesday.

The match on Tuesday is just the second friendly match between the Super Eagles and Desert Foxes in history, and the kickoff is 8pm local time
