The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Governorship Candidate in Kwara State, Prof Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem, has promised to invest in Sports and Youth Development when elected as Governor come 2023.

Prof Oba AbdulRaheem disclosed this on Monday while featuring on Media Parley organised by the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP).

According to him, Our administration will turn Kwara State into a new destination for sports in because I am an admirer of sports. Kwara needs to give sports deserving attention to meet up the world standard.

The former Sports Director at Ahmadu Bello University assured that he’d take all necessary steps to ensure that Sports in Kwara get needed attention when elected as the Governor.

“Youth are the wealth of tomorrow, and they’re also the potential instrument of creating that wealth today. My administration will centre heavily on Youth and human capital development.

“We’re going to leverage on the 21st century ICT to create job opportunities for our youth that will make them be self-sustained, self-sufficient and even employers of labour which will, in turn, create more opportunities for thousands of Kwarans,” he added.

Prof AbdulRaheem said the notion that Kwara is a Civil Service state is far from the truth because a Civil Service state can’t withstand the rate at which the economic situation is becoming worsening day by day. Kwara State has a lot of potential and prosperity, and we’re going to invest heavily in the Youth through a series of professional training and qualitative education in the ICT that will help them succeed on their own globally.

The NNPP gubernatorial candidate expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration, saying the administration has performed below expectation based on his assessment, noting that Kwaran is in the best position to judge comes the 2023 general election.

He explained that if the likes of AbdulRazaq are doing well in governance, he won’t have an option rather than to be a spectator.

“I have come out to fully participate in politics because they’ve performed drastically low and far beyond expectations. If elected as Governor, our administration will focus on Infrastructural developments, create wealth, and harnesses our potential through effective utilisation of our natural resources to increase our revenue,” he added.

According to the former Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN, Kwara has all it takes to also be the food basket of the Nation; through our agricultural revolution plan and industrialisation, we’ll ensure that Kwara becomes a sustainable state for industrial farming.

Speaking on the Executive-legislative relationship, Prof Oba promised to work with Kwara State House of Assembly members irrespective of the political difference, saying the main business is to serve Kwarans, not to antagonise anybody.

The former Chairman of the Federal Character Commission used the opportunity to put an end to the rumour of possible mergers of different political parties ahead of the general election.

“There is no plan anywhere that my party will be merging with anyone or any party. We won’t trade the trust Kwarans have in us for a selfish decision. We’re confident of winning come 2023.

He added that under his administration, all the 3 senatorial districts would be fully carried along in his developmental map and policy, and no region will be left alone to the detriment of another.

Prof Oba also used the platform to admonish the youths who form the major part of the Nigerian electoral value to stand up and protect their future by electing purposeful leaders who will have their minds while encouraging all Kwarans to come out en mass during the 2023 general election and perform their rights by voting the right candidate. A vote for me and all NNPP candidates is a vote for the right candidates because we’re people of integrity with vast knowledge in successful leadership, He added

The Chairman of the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), Salihu Shola Taofeeq, on his part, thanked the NNPP gubernatorial candidate for hosting the platform while assuring him that the body will continue to uphold the journalistic ethics of proper news reportage.
