David Umahi, Ebonyi state governor, has banned street campaigns by political parties across the state weeks before the election, and also threatened to close down the secretariat and office of any party that acts against the new order.

He also banned the pasting of political posters, banners, and fliers on state infrastructure, such as roads, electric poles, flyover bridges, and other critical state assets.

In a statement issued and signed by the state Commissioner for Information and state orientation, Mr. Uchenna Orji threatened to deal with political parties that choose the state infrastructure as a means to play politics, including his own party, All Progressives Congress, APC.

“The Governor has banned all street campaigns and directed all Local Government Area Chairmen to process all the applications of any Political Party, including APC, that wants to use the public facilities for their campaigns,” he stated.

Umahi then gave a directive to all political parties in the state to remove all posters they have on critical infrastructures in the state immediately.

“The Governor has decided to forgive all other political parties and appeal to them to remove all their posters on all the critical infrastructure before 31st December 2022 and desist forthwith from defacing the state facilities or face similar penalty like APC, Ebonyi State chapter.” He said.
