The National Publicity Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, has dismissed reports making the rounds that the embattled governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki has joined the party.

Mr Obaseki was disqualified by All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday, Friday, June 12, 2020, ahead of the June 22 governorship primary election to produce its flag bearer for the September gubernatorial election.

Reports thereafter emerged that Obaseki has obtained a membership card of the PDP to pursue further his agenda, as he promised not to appeal the ruling on his disqualification.

Reacting to the news, however, Mr Ologbondiyan said it was not true that Obaseki has joined the PDP, adding that there was no information to that effect at the national secretariat.

"The PDP has principles, processes, and procedures. Joining our party is a procedural issue. He [Obaseki] has to join the party at the ward level. As we speak, there is no information at the national secretariat that he has joined the party at the ward level. He has not," he said.

However, speculations are still brewing that the governor is on his way to the PDP, as there had been pressure on him to defect in the wake of the cold war between him and his estranged godfather, a former governor of the state and present APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.
